Basotho

Traditional Basotho people can be identified by their thick blankets and conical hats. Basotho men usually wrap themselves in a blanket, covering their trousers and shirt. These blankets carry great significance, closely linked to the important moments and milestones of a family's life.

Music plays a huge role in the Basotho tradition and songs are usually taught at initiation schools.

At the initiation school, the young men learn their history, the deeds of their ancestors and the value of loyalty to their chiefs and king.
