Every year Travel & Leisure Magazine asks its readers to help rank the top 50 hotels in the world. Africa proved to be the continent to beat. Fourteen of its hotels and lodges made it onto this illustrious list, more than half of which are in the top 20 - including the winner. Here are the ten best...

10. & Beyond Kichwa Tembo Lodges

Ranking 27th in the world, the Kichwa Tembo lodges are located in Kenya’s Masai Mara game reserve - not far from where scenes for the movie Out Of Africa were shot. In other words, it’s breathtaking. The two camps, Bateleur and Kichwa Tembo, each feature a handful of luxury tents - canvas spread over impressive wooden frames. Each tent is decorated with four-post beds, leather chairs and other rustic touches, from which visitors can enjoy incredible wildlife views - especially since the annual great Wildebeest migration passes through this reserve.
